ExxonMobil Chemical Co., Ltd. recently announced that it will build a new halobutyl rubber and hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin production facility at its petrochemical plant in Singapore. It is reported that the engineering and procurement activities of the company's new construction projects in Singapore have already started. It is expected that construction will begin in the second half of this year and the plan is to complete in 2017. The expansion will add 140,000 tons/year of halogenated butyl rubber production capacity and hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin plant design capacity of 90,000 tons/year. This device will become the world's largest hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin device to meet the long-term growth of the hot melt adhesive market. The company said that by 2040, the number of global cars and light trucks will double to 1.7 billion, which will support the growth in demand for halogenated butyl rubber. The global demand for hydrogenated tackifiers is expected to double in the next 15 years, with new demand mainly occurring in Asia, where packaging, carpentry, and nonwovens makers are increasing the use of hot melt adhesives.
