According to foreign reports, the German truck manufacturer MAN officially opened its new engine testing and development center in Nuremberg on April 21. The center cost a total of 35 million euros (about 46.8 million US dollars). The new test development center in Mannenberg has 16 engine test platforms as well as an automotive test platform with 150 employees. Bernd Maierhofer, head of the R&D Center in Mann, said: “With this new engine R&D center, we can better cope with changes in the market. The challenge we face today is how to reduce exhaust emissions to meet Euro VI standards. With the continuous improvement of requirements, we will need to solve more problems in the future." With 16 engine test platforms, engineers can use the test platform to complete more test work. The test platform has a power of 620 kW and a minimum torque of 4000 Nm. The test platform is capable of simulating extreme environments such as heavy rain, extreme heat, and severe cold. The test platform can also measure exhaust emissions. The R&D center uses a power cycle conversion technology that converts energy between three forms of electrical energy, thermal energy, and cold energy. For example, the heat sink can be cooled by the heat emitted by the engine; the braking energy generated by the test platform can be converted into electrical energy and stored in the power grid of the building.
